Dr Ku Chui Yong graduated from the National University of Malaysia in 2005. He was shortlisted as one of the few selected distinction undergraduate candidates and received the Dean’s Award for his excellent academic achievements upon graduation.

He was exposed to various medical departments during house-officer ship, and was serving solely in the surgical-based fields during his medical-officer years, before finally ending up in the Ophthalmology Department in Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah (Muar). He obtained his Basic Sciences in Ophthalmology before enrolling full-time into ophthalmology training in the National University of Malaysia. Upon completing his post-graduate training, he then served the community in both Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (Kuantan) and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (Klang). During this period of time, he was gazetted and acknowledged as a full-fledged Ophthalmologist by the Malaysian Ministry of Health in 2015, and later on enlisted into the Malaysia’s National Specialist Register (NSR).

Dr Ku has a keen interest in the Glaucoma Subspecialty field. He obtained his subspecialty training in Glaucoma in Tokyo Japan. In conjunction with the ‘Fight for Sight’ campaign, he was one of the committee members for Pahang’s World Glaucoma Day event on two occasions in 2015 and 2016.

As an advocator of visual rehabilitation, Dr Ku is constantly involved in the field of refractive surgery. He was one of the speakers for the National Ocular Biometry Course in 2016, which aimed to educate young eye surgeons to-be on refining their preoperative cataract assessment in order to obtain the perfect vision after cataract operations. He was also the Project Manager for both Pahang World Sight Day (2015) and Pahang Eye Course (2016), which again were courses intended to create awareness and combat reversible blindness amongst both Pahang citizens and healthcare providers. Back in his Ophthalmology Department, Dr Ku was in the committee for Surgical Related Morbidity/Mortality which oversaw and monitored each and every cataract operation outcomes within the department.

Dr Ku is experienced in a variety of eye surgeries, including cataract surgeries and this includes usage of premium intraocular lenses. He also has a vast experience in treating glaucoma eye diseases. In addition, he also provides other comprehensive eye care such as pterygium excisions, laser therapy in diabetic retinopathy, intravitreal injections for macular-related problems and many more.
